Members of the Islamic Awqaf Department refused for the third consecutive day to enter al-Aqsa Mosque via the Israeli newly-erected metal detectors at its gates.
According to the PIC field reporter the Awqaf employees renewed their total rejection of the Israeli restrictions on their entry into the holy compound.
They considered the new measures as part of Israel’s continued attempts to impose a new fait accompli at al-Aqsa Mosque.
Meanwhile tensions are still running high at the Mosque’s gates where more than 50 injuries were reported among Palestinians who were protesting against the metal detectors installed by the Israeli authorities at the entrances of the Mosque.
Israeli police forces tried to arrest some of the injured worshipers while in hospital our correspondent revealed.
Last week Israel closed al-Aqsa Mosque and banned the Friday prayer in the site following an anti-occupation shooting which left three Palestinians killed and two Israeli police officers dead.
Later on Sunday Israeli authorities installed metal detectors at the entrances of the Mosque in order to tighten search and inspection procedures of all Palestinians wishing to enter the Mosque.
However Palestinians have refused the Israeli measures and continued for the second day praying in roads leading to the holy compound.
