Thousands of worshipers from the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem headed to al-Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday to mark Laylat al-Qadr one of Ramadan’s holiest nights.
Despite the Israeli tight restrictions the number of worshipers exceeded 270000.
Earlier Wednesday Israeli police declared a set of security measures restricting Palestinian worshipers’ access to the Mosque.
Israeli police forces were deployed in large numbers since the early morning hours throughout the occupied city “to keep order and to facilitate the entrance and exit of worshippers in the area.”
Palestinian religious figures have earlier called on Palestinians to intensify their presence in al-Aqsa in order to mark the holy night.
Also known as the “Night of Power” Laylat al-Qadr is usually observed on the night preceding 27 Ramadan. Prayer on the holy night is said to be better than 1000 months of prayers due to the abundance of mercy and blessings shown by Allah in the night when the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
