The family of the Israeli soldier Avra Mengistu who is reportedly being held by Hamas received last night a video documenting Avra’s crossing of the border fence into the Gaza Strip.
The video was given in the presence of a “Defense Ministry representative” and the head of the department of missing and captive persons in the intelligence branch according to Hebrew-speaking outlets.
The footage dating back to 2014 shows the moments when the captive soldier crossed the border fence from Israel into the Gaza Strip where he is believed to have been captured by Hamas resistance group
Mengistu a 30-year-old Israeli of Ethiopian descent has reportedly been held in Gaza ever since. His family claimed that he suffers from a mental illness and stumbled across the border into the coastal territory by accident.
The family was first shown the video three months after Mengistu entered Gaza on September 7 2014 but in January this year asked the Israeli occupation forces for a copy. Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot approved the measure.
