Israeli intelligence rules out Fatah victory in early elections

Monday 25-December-2006

NAZARETH (PIC)– Israeli intelligence chief Yuval Diskin has ruled out the possibility of a Fatah faction victory in any early legislative elections in the Palestinian lands in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Diskin speaking at the Israeli weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday said that Fatah’s chances of an election victory is second to none adding that Fatah was passing a stage of disintegration while the Hamas Movement was still enjoying its full power.

He said in a report tabled with the government that MP Mohammed Dahlan the former head of the PA preventive security apparatus was exerting efforts to rebuild Fatah but said that the faction was still degenerating.

It is in the interest of Hamas to maintain calm in the Palestinian arena while other Palestinian parties were seeking the contrary Diskin said.
