IOA releases two Palestinian prisoners

Tuesday 16-May-2017

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) released on Monday evening the Palestinian writer Waleed al-Houdali from Ramallah city at the Jalama military checkpoint to the north of Jenin. Houdali who was on hunger strike was taken to a local hospital directly after his release.

Local sources told the PIC reporter that representatives of pro-prisoners institutions and activists in Jenin received Houdali at the Jalama crossing. Due to his exhaustion and inability to stand on his feet Houdali was transferred to a local hospital. Later on he went to a tent of solidarity with the striking prisoners where he delivered a speech before heading to his city of Ramallah.

Houdali affirmed that the prisoners in Gilboa prison are highly determined to continue their hunger strike and that all prisoners are united in this decision.

Houdali is an ex-prisoner who was previously arrested several times and who was lately administratively detained for four months.

The IOA in the Negev prison also released on Monday the Palestinian prisoner Ali Jalaita 34 who is from Jericho after serving 16 years in Israeli jails.

Jalaita said in a statement after his release that the hunger strikers have entered a complicated and dangerous stage that requires all parties to support their just cause.

He added that his happiness for his release will remain incomplete until all prisoners enjoy freedom.

Immediately after Jalaita arrived to Jericho citizens came to his family’s house to congratulate him. The gathering was then turned into a solidarity event in which Jalaita spoke about the detainees’ conditions.
