Israeli navy targets Palestinian fishermen wounds one & arrests 5

A Palestinian fisherman was injured on Monday after being targeted by the Israeli navy gunboats besieging the Gaza Strip.

Nizar Ayyash the head of the Palestinian Fishermen Syndicate told the PIC that Israeli navy forces arrested a fisherman after has was seriously injured off the coast of al-Sudaniyya area in the northern Gaza Strip.

Ayyash said that the forces arrested two fishermen along with the injured one on Monday morning while 3 others were arrested on Sunday evening in the same area.

Local sources said that the 3 fishermen were taken to Ashdod port after the Israeli gunboats attacked them and opened fire at the Palestinian fishermen’s boats in the area.

Ayyash condemned the Israeli practices and attacks against the Palestinian fishermen who seek a livelihood for their children calling on the international community to intervene to pressure Israel to allow fishermen to practice their profession freely.

He pointed out that the permitted fishing area does not exceed 6 nautical miles in the northern Gaza Strip and it expands slightly southward after the Gaza Valley to reach 9 nautical miles only.

The Palestinian fishermen are attacked almost daily by the Israeli navy vessels.

Meanwhile the Israeli occupation soldiers arrested on Sunday a Palestinian citizen who tried to cross the border fence between the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories and took him for interrogation according to the Hebrew website Walla.
