Hanini: The occupation unable to break the Palestinian prisoners’ will

Tuesday 18-April-2017

Senior Hamas official Abdul-Hakim Hanini has described the Israeli occupation and its jailers as much weaker than being able to break the will of steadfast prisoners and the determination of the Palestinian resistance to free them.

“The occupation had already tried the method of pressure on prisoners in order to swiftly clinch a fragile (prisoners’ exchange) deal at any price but after all its attempts failed it came back again to its previous method and tactic; nonetheless I like to confirm that such a method has been confronted strongly and firmly before the first deal and it will be faced again by the prisoners with an unbreakable will” Hanini a former prisoner said in an interview conducted with him by the Palestinian Information Center (PIC).

He also expressed his belief that the Israeli occupation can never end the Palestinian people’s resistance and their struggle for their rights and liberation.

“This enemy cannot stop the resistance or stop us from marching forwards toward our rights and the liberation of our land. It cannot stop this marching and it has tried to do so since the beginning of the resistance (but failed).”

Talking about the Jerusalem intifada (uprising) Hanini stressed that the current intifada like previous ones is “affected by tides according to surrounding events and chances but its wick remains aflame and there will always be ongoing aftershocks and new waves until the occupation is removed.”

In a message to the brave young people of Palestine the Hamas official hailed their bravery in carrying out lone operations against the occupation and urged them to continue their resistance.

“Go on and resist the occupation. You are the hope and the nation relies on you to achieve its aspiration for liberation” he urged the youth further.

He also called on them not to get desperate when facing reality and seeing others commit treason and sell out their homeland and conscience.

Abdul-Hakim Hanini in concise words

Hanini is one of the prominent founders of al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas in the West Bank and was a long-serving prisoner before his release as part of the 2011 prisoner swap deal between his Movement and the Israeli occupation.

Following his release the Israeli occupation state exiled him to Qatar.

When he was in prison he and other prisoners were able to pressure Israeli jailers to allow them to pursue their academic studies.

Despite the harsh incarceration conditions in Israeli jails and attempts to prevent him from finishing his study he was able to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees and later after his release he joined a doctoral program and his hard work culminated with a doctorate in international and political relations from Malaysia.
