The Popular Campaign to Save Gaza has called on the government of Rami al-Hamdallah to immediately backtrack on its decision to slash the salaries of its employees in the Gaza Strip by 30 percent describing the step as illegal and unjust.
“The salary cut decision is a declaration of war against Gaza employees” a spokesman for the campaign told a news conference held outside the cabinet headquarters in Gaza City.
Spokesman Abdul-Kareem Ashour said that “such decision was taken without prior notice and sent a message of oppression and humiliation to the citizens in Gaza in general and the employees in particular.”
Ashour warned that the decision would affect the economic and social lives of the entire population and would lead to serious political implications.
He also said such step would deepen the national division and marginalize Gaza further calling on all political groups and figures to stand against any attempt to discriminate against Gaza and its people.
