Israel sharply condemned a Dublin city council decision to fly the Palestinian flag above the capital’s city hall on May 15 Yedioth Ahronoth correspondent Itamar Eichner said.
Israel strongly condemned as well the Dublin city council resolution that expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people living under “brutal occupation” for 50 years referring to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories in 1967.
Eichner said the initiative which may cause a political crisis between Ireland and Israel was proposed by Councilor John Lyons in order to mark 50 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The Dublin city council is largely populated with members of the Sinn Fein and other left-wing parties which have traditionally been anti-Israel he pointed out.
