Nassif calls for an end to infighting

Sunday 24-December-2006

TULKARM (PIC)– Ra’fat Nassif a Hamas political leader detained in Israeli jails has appealed to the Palestinian people to halt infighting and to preserve Palestinian blood.

Nassif in a message from his Beer Sheba prison cell on Friday warned against being dragged into a quagmire that only served the Israeli occupation.

He said that all factions should conclude a charter of honor that prohibits the shedding of Palestinian blood and bans resorting to arms to resolve internal differences and to resort instead to dialogue.

The Hamas leader who is serving a four and a half years term asked leaders and cadres of Palestinian factions to abide by national unity and to concentrate on resisting occupation.

Nassif expressed concern on behalf of all Palestinian prisoners over the regretful incidents in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and called for respecting the law and forming a national unity government the soonest.

Both the Fatah and Hamas movements reiterated on Friday their commitment to halting clashes during a meeting for the mini committee assigned by the higher follow up committee of all national and Islamic forces to supervise implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

For his part MP Mushir Al-Masri the secretary of the Hamas-affiliated change and reform parliamentary bloc charged figures within the Fatah faction with aborting any mediation attempt to restore calm to the Palestinian arena.

In Tulkarm the local national and Islamic forces organized a peaceful rally that passed through the city streets calling for national unity and warning of civil strife.

Participants hoisted the Palestinian flag only and listened to a speech that asserted that this march was aimed at reactivating popular efforts to stop bloodletting.
