Palestinians choke on tear gas after IOF quells march in al-Khalil

Friday 24-February-2017

Dozens of Palestinians on Friday afternoon choked on tear gas after Israeli occupation soldiers quelled a peaceful march in solidarity with the Old City of al-Khalil.

Hundreds of Palestinians representing local and foreign institutions along with representatives of factions and national figures took part in the march which was held on the 23rd anniversary of the massacre in the Ibrahimi Mosque.

The event aimed at demanding the opening of al-Shuhada Street and ending the blockade of the Old City of al-Khalil.

The participants carried banners calling for evicting settlers out of the city and chanted anti-occupation and anti-apartheid slogans.

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) closed al-Shuhada main street after the Ibrahimi massacre took place on February 25 1994. Over 500 commercial shops were also closed by Israeli military orders in the center of the Old City while IOA practices forced owners of 1000 other shops to close down.
