Conference in support of Intifada to return Palestine to forefront

Monday 20-February-2017

The Assistant Speaker of the Iranian parliament Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Monday that the Sixth International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada which is scheduled to open next Tuesday in Tehran aims to return the Palestinian cause to the top regional and international concerns.

Abdollahian told the PIC reporter in an exclusive statement in Tehran that the conference comes in a sensitive time amid an ever-growing American support to the Israeli occupation especially after the inauguration of Donald Trump.

He pointed out that the two-day conference will include four committees based on the detailed discussions that took place in the Islamic Consultative Assembly.

The first committee will discuss the role of parliaments in supporting the Palestinian cause the second will be interested in the non-profit and non-governmental organizations supporting Palestine while the third is a legal committee that will follow up human rights issues in Palestine as well resisting settlement projects and the fourth committee is for Palestinian factions.

The Iranian official denied that Iran exploits the Palestinian cause in favor of extending its influence in the region stressing “Iran never tried to use the Palestinian cause as a card for the benefit of its own interests.”

He added that defending the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people is “a religious and moral duty as stated in the Iranian constitution.”
