Bokayaa Plain confiscations to uproot Palestinians

Friday 17-February-2017

Nasser Bani Ouda from Tammun village to the east of Tubas city in the West Bank was not guilty of anything when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) confiscated his vehicle except ploughing his land in the Bokayaa plain.

The IOF confiscated Ouda’s vehicle as well as irrigation pipes to prevent him and other Palestinians from cultivating their lands in the region.

Bokayaa plain represents one of most fertile lands in Palestine especially in the West Bank with an area of nearly 100 thousand dunums and extends from the east of Tubas to the Palestinian-Jordanian borders.

The Israeli practices against Palestinians in the area including harassment confiscation and prosecution aim at uprooting the native inhabitants to open the door for the expansion of Israeli settlements.

“The IOF established many military camps and settlements in the Bokayaa plain” the farmer Hasan Bisharat told the PIC.

Furthermore people living in different places in Atov plain suffer from Israeli violations such as demolition and confiscation which also aims at uprooting them from their land.

Lack of water sources

Bisharat also pointed out that the IOF is confiscating lands on a large-scale which made Palestinian farming lands untapped. Palestinian farmers depended on rainfall after the IOF started to deprive them of using water wells for agricultural purposes.

According to researches the Bokayaa plain is located over a huge supply of groundwater seized by the IOF while Palestinians are prevented from using it.

Moreover a large number of Palestinian fields were destroyed during Israeli military maneuvers Bisharat underlined.
