Hamas prisoners threaten protest steps against solitary confinement

Tuesday 24-January-2017

The higher leading committee of Hamas prisoners has warned that it will confront the arbitrary solitary confinement policy used against all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and will not leave anyone exposed to such suppression.

In a statement the committee strongly denounced the transfer of prisoner Bajes Nakhla from Ofer to an isolation cell in Eshel jail on Sunday threatening that it would take protest steps if the jailers did not release him from solitary confinement

The committee expressed its rejection of Israel’s “repressive criminal and arbitrary practices” especially its solitary confinement policy affirming that it would do everything necessary to save the isolated prisoners from their suffering.

The committee warned that it would repeat al-Karama (dignity) hunger strike that took place in 2012 in order to put an end to the isolation of prisoners.

“It is unacceptable that a prisoner is exposed to the bitterness of solitary confinement and the crime of administrative detention at the same time under flimsy pretexts as happened with prisoner and resistance fighter Bajes Nakhla who has spent over 15 years in administrative detention” it said.

In this regard the Palestinian prisoners in Ofer jail have threatened to stage an open-ended hunger strike to pressure the Israeli prison service to end the isolation of Nakhla according to informed sources on Monday.
