European campaign to launch events in Europe in protest at Gaza Siege

Monday 23-January-2017

The European Campaign to Lift the Siege on Gaza launched a series of events in a number of European capitals and big cities in protest at the continuation of the Israeli siege on Gaza in coincidence with its 12th anniversary.

Dr. Suhail Abu Shammala head of the Palestinian Assembly in Germany said that the events aim at refusing the Israeli massive punishment policy against Palestinians in the besieged enclave and challenging Israeli other policies which led to repeated humanitarian crises in Gaza Strip over the past 12 years.

Mohammad Abu al-Haija member of the campaign in Sweden pointed out that the latter has carried on contacting European partners and civil organizations supportive to the Palestinian rights in order to convey the voice of the besieged Palestinians to decision makers.

The campaign is preparing to hold events in Brussels London and Geneva in order to acquaint the European parliamentarians with the developments in the blockaded Gaza Strip. The oncoming events also aim at exerting efforts for lifting the Israeli permanent siege on Gaza.

The Israeli siege violates the rights of civilians in Gaza such as the right of medical treatment and education as well as work opportunities. Poverty and unemployment rates have been remarkably increasing to the extent that 70% of adult population in Gaza depends on humanitarian aid according to Human Rights Watch Organization.
