Wednesday 18-January-2017

The Palestinian prisoner Anas Jaradat 36 declared late Tuesday an open-ended hunger strike in protest against Israeli Prison Service’s deliberate medical negligence policy.

Muhjat Quds institution affirmed in a statement issued Wednesday that Jaradat who is held in solitary confinement in Ashkelon prison declared an open-ended hunger strike demanding receiving the urgently-needed medical treatment.

The institution quoted Jaradat as saying that he suffers from jaundice but the IPS is denying him any medical treatment.

Jaradat said that warden of Ashkelon prison has recently informed him that he was diagnosed with a liver disease since 2009.

It is not important whether to know your illness or not. This will change nothing Jaradat quoted the warden of Ashkelon prison as saying.

In a solidarity move Jihad Movement’s prisoners declared a set of protest steps in support of Jaradat’s hunger strike.

Muhjat Quds institution held the IPS responsible for Jaradat’s serious health deterioration and voiced an urgent appeal to human rights groups to intervene.

Jaradat was abducted by Israeli soldiers on May 11 2003 and sentenced to 35 life-terms and additional 35 years for his affiliation to Jihad Movement and planning attacks against Israeli targets.

Earlier Tuesday a group of local rights activists visited Jaradat’s family and expressed their total support for their son’s legitimate demands.

During the visit the family voiced an urgent appeal to human rights and legal groups including the Red Cross asking them to visit him and to intervene to ensure he receives the needed treatment as stated by all international treaties.
