Bahar: We hope to see a new stage of relations between Hamas and Cairo

Thursday 5-January-2017

Ahmed Bahar first deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has expressed hope that the current talks between officials from Hamas and Egypt in Cairo will mark a new stage of relations between the two sides.

This came in a speech he delivered during a conference on “the Palestinian-Egyptian relations and its impacts on the Gaza Strip” which was organized on Wednesday by the Academy of Management and Policy for Graduate Studies at the headquarters of the Awqaf Ministry in Gaza City.

“The positive and constructive statements made by our Egyptian brothers recently will establish a new stage of mutual relations between Egypt and the Gaza Strip” Bahar stated.

“We expect that the Palestinian-Egyptian discussions and talks will bear fruit during the coming days or weeks … and build bridges of trust again in accordance with political and security rules based on mutual respect joint interests and the principle of non-interference in others’ affairs” the Palestinian lawmaker added.

He expressed his belief that any improvement in the relations between the two sides would serve the interests of the Egyptian and Palestinian peoples and strengthen Egypt’s role in supporting the Palestinian cause.

He stressed that the PLC would provide every support for any initiative contributing to cementing the Palestinian-Egyptian relations describing Egypt as “the strategic depth of Palestine and Gaza.”
