Internal Aqsa path on verge of collapse

Monday 5-November-2018

Fissures and cracks have emerged on a pathway inside Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque—the third holiest site in Islam.

The cracks have been spotted on the borderline between the path and the wall south of al-Rahma Gate.

The seven-centimeter crack along with others emerging as a result of internal collapses have become visible all along the southern pathway.

Crowds of Israeli settlers are often caught gathering on that pathway during their mass break-ins into the Aqsa Mosque. Israeli police often obstruct works to reconstruct the pathway and carry out maintenance in the area.

Heavy water downpours piled up on the path also led to the gradual dissolution of soil and concrete as water creeps into the fissures emerging on the stones as time passes by.

Local sources warned of a massive collapse to rock al-Aqsa in case serious measures are not urgently taken to patch up the cracks.
