Palestinian hunger-striking prisoner refuses water

Tuesday 16-October-2018

The Palestinian Prisoner Society on Tuesday said that the Palestinian prisoner Ahmad al-Rimawi 26 has decided to escalate his hunger strike and stop drinking water.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society said in a statement that al-Rimawi started an open hunger strike in Israeli jails three days ago in protest at his detention without charge or trial since August 2017.

Al-Rimawi has two brothers held in Israeli lock-ups: William who has been detained since 2002 and Tareq who was arrested three months ago.

Ahmad al-Rimawi who is currently held in Nafha prison is an ex-prisoner who had served three years in Israel jails.

In another context the Palestinian Prisoner Society said that the administrative detainee Mutaz Abido is suffering from serious health problems which are complications developed by an injury he sustained at the time of his arrest in 2011.

Abido’s lawyer said that his health condition is deteriorating and that he depends on his fellow prisoners at Negev jail to do his daily tasks.

Abido has lost control of his limbs and he is in urgent need for medical intervention; however the Israel Prison Service only gives him painkillers as a treatment.

Abido is an ex-prisoner who had spent over eight years in Israeli jails. He has been detained without charge or trial since February 2018.
