Palestinian prisoners suffer poor detention conditions

Sunday 7-October-2018

A number of Palestinian prisoners suffer very difficult detention conditions as they are being imprisoned by Israel “under dire condition” in Ofer prison according to a statement released by the PA committee for prisoners and ex-prisoners on Sunday.

The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) in Ofer prison deliberately denied the sick prisoners from their legitimate right to receive the suitable medical treatment in total disregard to their difficult health problems the statement reads.

Some of those prisoners are in dire need to conduct urgent and very serious medical surgeries it added.

The PA committee said that the prisoner Jamal Hamamreh 52 is continued to be denied from receiving treatment in hospital although he suffers a lung cancer and sharp chest pain.

Hammareh is held in administrative detention according to which he is being imprisoned without charge or trial.

The prisoner Nidal Abu Ayash from al-Khalil also suffers different health problems including heart disease and frequent fainting. However IPS continued to prevent his medical treatment the committee underlined.

An Israeli court has recently refused Abu Ayash’s early release and renewed his administrative detention for six months despite his deteriorating health situation.
