General strike sweeps occupied Palestine over Israeli Nation State Law

Monday 1-October-2018

A general strike has been observed across the occupied Palestinian territories in protest against Israel’s racist Nation-State Basic Law.

Life has almost come to standstill in the occupied West Bank and territories occupied in 1948 as shops were shuttered down government and financial institutions did not open to business and schools and universities suspended classes. Drivers of public and private means of transport have also joined the strike.

The Arab High Follow-Up Committee in territories occupied in 1948 and the national factions in the occupied Palestinian territories joined in calling for the strike to protest the fallouts of the new racist law.

The new law was passed by the Israeli parliament (Knesset) on July 19 despite strong local and international opposition due to its obvious racist content which says that Israel is the land of the Jewish people totally ignoring Palestinians’ historical existence in the land long before they creation of the Zionist entity.
