Palestinian General Administration of Borders and Crossings on Saturday announced that Rafah crossing will opened Sunday after a week of closure.
“The Egyptian authorities informed us that work at Rafah crossing will be resumed starting Sunday for the travel of Gaza residents and the return of pilgrims” the General Administration said in a brief statement.
The administration of Rafah crossing on 15th August announced that the border crossing would be closed for six days starting last Monday in both directions for Eid al-Adha holiday.
Rafah crossing which connects the Gaza Strip with Egypt has been closed since July 2013. It might be opened in exceptional cases for the travel of humanitarian cases.
Palestinians travelling through Rafah crossing have repeatedly complained of Egypt’s tightened restrictions and the so many security checkpoints they have to pass through during their travel. It usually takes several days to travel from Egypt to the border crossing.
