Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) on Thursday decided to extend the administrative detention of the Palestinian prisoner Mu’taz Abido 38 for 6 months.
Abido had just finished a 6-month prison sentence before his detention was renewed for another 6 months without charge or trial despite his difficult health condition the Commission said in a statement.
Abido is suffering from a pelvic fracture injuries to the abdomen and right arm and paralysis of the left leg which were all caused by explosive bullets fired at him by Israeli soldiers during his first arrest in 2011 from his home in al-Khalil.
Abido was re-arrested on 5th February 2018 and he has been held in administrative detention ever since. Abido who uses a wheelchair is unable to do the most basic tasks by himself. He is in dire need of a long-term treatment program.
A father of three girls Abido during his previous detention spent 33 months in Ramle prison clinic before he was released on 9th November 2015.
Abido’s brother Mu’tasen is also kept in administrative detention in Negev jail. Both of them are denied family visits.
By the end of February 2018 the number of Palestinians held in Israeli jails increased to 6500 including 63 females 6 of whom are minors 350 children and 9 members of the Palestinian Legislative Council.
According to the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission a noticeable increase in the number of sick prisoners in Israeli jails has been witnessed reaching about 1800 by the end of March 2018 which constitutes 27.7% of the total number of prisoners.
There are about 700 Palestinians in Israeli lock-ups who need urgent medical intervention including cancer patients and detainees with physical and mental disabilities.
