Appeal for releasing elderly prisoner bedridden in prison hospital for 14 years

Saturday 28-June-2008

JENIN (PIC)– Prisoner Shadi Shallaldah in the Israeli Ofer prison appealed to human rights organizations to urgently intervene to demand the release of an elderly prisoner bedridden in the Ramla prison hospital for 14 years suffering from deteriorating health condition and living on a respirator.

Shallaldah said that prisoner Hussein Ali 60 who is serving two life sentences suffers from many diseases notably diabetes asthma and hypertension and deals with 26 medicine tablets.

Meanwhile the wife of prisoner Adnan Hamarsha the oldest serving administrative prisoner also appealed to human rights organizations and the international community to necessarily intervene to put an end to the suffering of her husband who has been administratively detained in the Negev prison for five consecutive years without any charge.

The Ahrar center called on all human rights organization and international bodies to highlight the suffering of prisoner Hamarsha who suffers chronic diseases especially hypertension.

In another context the Palestinian worker union stated that the IOF troops kidnapped during this month more than 400 workers including 42 women during large-scale campaigns at the pretext of entering the Palestinian lands occupied in 1948 without permits.

In a press statement received by the PIC the union added that the Israeli courts imposed prison terms and exorbitant fines on the workers.

It underlined that the reality refutes the Israeli allegations that it eased its security measures and issued permits for hundreds of workers where it escalated its arbitrary campaigns against them and refused to issue any permits pointing out that the Israeli occupation misinforms the public opinion.

The union appealed to all human rights organizations to pressure Israel to remove all restrictions imposed on Palestinian workers who are no longer able to support their families in light of these Israeli measures.
