Child killed 220 civilians injured in Gaza protests

Friday 13-July-2018

A Palestinian child was killed and dozens were injured by Israeli gunfire on the 16th Friday of the Great March of Return near Gaza border.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health announced that Othman Hillis 15 was killed while 220 Palestinians suffered different injuries in the protests.

The PIC reporter said that the Israeli occupation forces stationed at the border fence east of Gaza heavily fired live ammunition and teargas canisters at the peaceful protesters.

He added that thousands of Palestinian citizens on Friday marched in the Great March of Return camps along Gaza border with the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories in solidarity with the families of Khan al-Ahmar village in Jerusalem.

For its part the Higher National Committee for the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege in a statement praised the steadfastness of Khan al-Ahmar residents and affirmed that the Great March of Return will continue until its goals are achieved.

Israel’s Supreme Court on Thursday issued a precautionary order to freeze the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar until mid-August.

The same court in May ruled for demolishing Khan al-Ahmar village home to 190 Palestinians under the pretext of being unlicensed.

The people of Khan al-Ahmar moved to Jerusalem in 1953 after being expelled by Israeli gangs from the Negev desert. The lands on which the Bedouin community is established are targeted by an Israeli settlement project named E1.

According to Palestinian observers the project involves seizing 12000 dunums of land stretching from East Jerusalem to the Dead Sea.

E1 is part of another project aimed at emptying the area of any Palestinian presence and isolating East Jerusalem from the West Bank.
