Hundreds of Israeli settlers joined a revelry held overnight Thursday in the plazas of the Ibrahimi Mosque in the southern occupied West Bank province of al-Khalil.
Director of the mosque Sheikh Hefdhi Abu Sneineh said Israeli settler hordes flocked to the exterior squares of the site before they proceeded with anti-Arab chants and sacrilegious dances.
Dozens of fanatic rabbis along with the minister of internal security were in attendance.
Abu Sneineh dubbed the assault a flagrant violation of the sanctity of the mosque and a provocation to the Muslim masses.
He held the Israeli government responsible for the fallouts of the assault which he said makes part of Israeli attempts to Judaize holy sites across the occupied Palestinian territories.
He called on the UNESCO among other international bodies to take urgent steps in response to such Israeli violations.
