Israeli Occupation Authorities (IOA) have issued administrative detention orders against 44 Palestinians since June 1 rights sources revealed on Tuesday.
The Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said that 22 orders were issued against first time detainees and former prisoners.
Among the detainees were lawmaker Khalida Jarrar whose administrative detention was extended for four months and Osama Shahin a journalist who has been imprisoned since May 31 the sources added.
Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even the detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
Rights groups say that Israel’s administrative detention policy has been used as an attempt to disrupt Palestinian political processes notably targeting Palestinian politicians activists and journalists.
