Tuesday 29-May-2018

Former minister of detainees’ affairs Wasfi Qabha has affirmed that the popular and official support for the administrative detainees’ boycott of Israeli courts is very weak and not rising to the occasion.

In a statement on Monday Qabha said that the administrative internees would not succeed in their effort to have their demands met if there was no strong popular and official support for them.

“We have only seen a few solidarity sit-in and rallies staged to support the administrative detainees in their boycott of administrative courts although they began their battle in this regard 100 days ago” he asserted.

The Palestinian official stressed the need for Palestinian factions and concerned organizations to shoulder their responsibilities towards the administrative detainees and highlight their issue through holding events aimed at pressuring the Israeli occupation authority to yield to their demands.

He accused the Palestinian Authority (PA) the Arab League and the Arab Lawyers Union of being passive towards the issue of the administrative detainees in Israeli jails and said that the PA can play a major role in demanding the international community and its institutions to intervene to pressure Israel to release the detainees in light of the absence of indictments against them.
