Administrative detainee Ibaa Barghouti on open hunger strike

Wednesday 2-May-2018

Palestinian prisoner Ibaa al-Barghouti 40 continues his open hunger strike for the 10th day in a row in protest at his administrative detention in Israeli jails.

Lawyer of the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission Karim Ajwa said in a press statement on Tuesday that al-Barghouti was transferred from Negev to Ashkelon jail about a week ago.

Ajwa added that al-Barghouti is being held in solitary confinement under tough conditions and that he is suffering from fatigue and severe pains in the stomach.

Al-Barghouti was arrested in August 2017 and received a six-month administrative detention order. After his sentence ended an Israeli court decided to extend his detention without charge or trial for another four months.

Ajwa explained that al-Barghouti has declared an open hunger strike to demand an immediate end to his detention or at least prevent any renewal of his incarceration.
