1st anniversary of slain Basel al-A’raj observed in occupied Palestine

Sunday 11-March-2018

A celebration was held in Jerusalem’s southern village of al-Walaja on Saturday to mark the first anniversary of the death of the Palestinian activist Basel al-A’raj killed by the Israeli occupation army.

Speaking on behalf of al-Araj’s family the father Abu Udai paid tribute to his son whom he said sacrificed his life and soul for the sake of his land and people.

Speaking at the event lawyer Mohamed Alyan the father of another slain Palestinian—Bahaa Alyan—also hailed slain Basel who was fatally shot by the Israeli military troops moments after they cordoned off the family home in al-Bireh in the central occupied West Bank where Basel was lying. The occupation army kept chasing him for months. Basel breathed his last following a shootout with the Israeli military.

Bishop Atallah Hanna also spoke on behalf of the Palestinians living in Occupied Jerusalem raising the alarm over the oppressive measures and crimes perpetrated by the Israeli forces against the residents of the Walaja village in an attempt to force them out of their land.
