Bahar: Approving the 2018 budget without referring it to PLC “illegal”

Thursday 1-March-2018

Ahmed Bahar first deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has strongly denounced the Ramallah-based government for approving the 2018 budget without presenting it to the PLC calling on the visiting Egyptian delegation in Gaza to intervene.

During a news conference held on Wednesday at the PLC headquarters in Gaza Bahar described the government’s approval of the budget as “illegal” and “a dangerous precedent in the history of the Palestinian Authority” especially in light of the efforts being made to consolidate the national reconciliation.

He said that the budget should have been approved through a law issued by the PLC accusing the government of Rami al-Hamdallah of persisting in violating the provisions of the Palestinian basic law.

The lawmaker also accused Fatah and its chief Mahmoud Abbas of monopolizing all authorities and powers.

“Such illegal and immoral practice will never serve the reconciliation but rather it will deepen the existing state of division and lead to political and financial corruption that requires accountability” Bahar stated.

He warned that “the PLC has the right to take legal action in this regard.”
