A meticulously green painting which puzzles those who look at it due to its exceptional beauty looking so fresh and new as if it has never been touched by a human yet. This is the town of Abbouin northwest of Ramallah which makes its visitors happy as if it was gardens of joy. One feels comfortable seeing it allowing the eye to get much of its beauty willingly.

For its beauty an electronic website of the village made its image a profile picture to attract visitors where the water spring and beautiful almond blossoms stand the number of fans increases the page supervisors say.

As rains stopped a few days ago children and visitors enjoyed the beauty of the small town. In the midst of laughter and play children picked the most beautiful spring flowers such as Al-Hanoun some of them picked the beautiful almond blossoms amid the opposition of their families.

Beauty resists Israeli settlements
Mona Al-Hamed from Ramallah likes to hike through the hills of Abbouin saying: “Abbouin is a town that is resistant to the Israeli settlements; the beauty of its resistance increases the beauty of its nature. I love to teach my children the importance of the land to defend it and to cling to it as Abbouin has taught us over the years.”

The beauty of Abbouin lies in its old town which is located on an isolated hill surrounded by olive groves almonds and water wells. The land is beautifully surrounded by a green belt of almond trees.

Attractive landmarks
The town becomes more beautiful during the spring as it is a rural town except for the presence of an ancient citadel (Citadel of Sahwil) an urban fortress in terms of size and shape and a typical castle with an almost square layout with its vaults and arches surrounding the main square. This castle was the center of government of the region during Ottoman rule.

The village of Abbouin according to the Palestinian Encyclopedia is located 30 km northwest of the city of Ramallah. The name of the village came from the word ‘Aub’ which is a Semite word that means “Hiding and darkness” and the Syriac word of ‘Aaba’ which means “a grove.”
