Palestinian protesters threw eggs at an American delegation visiting the occupied West Bank Thursday amid anger over US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Members of the American delegation were visiting a Palestinian Authority polling firm Thursday when anti-US protesters gathered outside.
Chanting slogans against the US and President Trump’s decision to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem the demonstrators held up placards reading “The US is part of the problem not the solution” and “Jerusalem is the Capital of Palestine”.
PA security forces prevented the protesters from entering the building where the US delegation was meeting with the polling firm but as the delegation members left the building protesters hurled eggs.
As the delegation left protesters attempted to surround the minibus and chased the vehicle as it left the scene.
Palestinian security forces protected the Americans.
One of the demonstrators Jamal Jomoa said he had come to show his opposition to Trump’s December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“Today there was a reaction from the Palestinian people and popular activists a reaction to this dishonorable and awful reception” Jomoa said.
Last month demonstrators disrupted a meeting between US diplomats and the chamber of commerce in the Palestinian city of Bethlehem.
