Sheikh Salah’s isolation extended for another 6 months

Thursday 15-February-2018

The Israeli Central Court has extended on Thursday the isolation of Sheikh Raed Salah head of the Islamic Movement within the Green Line for six additional months.

“The court … today approved a request by the Israeli Prison Service to extend Sheikh Salah’s solitary confinement for another six months”said lawyer of Sheikh Salah Khaled Zabarqah.

“We see no justification or reason for extending his solitary confinement except out of revenge; to punish him for his criticism of Israel’s policy vis-à-vis Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa” Zabarqah added.

According to the lawyer Salah who is barred from issuing press statements heard the court’s ruling with a sardonic smile.

In August 2017 Israeli police rounded up Sheikh Salah after storming his home in Umm al-Fahm city for the charge of practicing incitement and supporting an event held by a banned “illegal” organization referring to the Islamic Movement.

Israel officially outlawed Salah’s Islamic Movement in 2015 for allegedly engaging in “anti-Israel activities”.
