Palestinian doctors at al-Shifa Hospital in the besieged Gaza Strip went on strike on Monday to demand the Palestinian government and its health ministry to provide a solution to the absence of cleaning services and the spread of garbage in all sections of the facility.
According to hospital director Medhat Abbas the working environment in the facility which is the largest medical complex in Gaza has become unsafe to provide medical services for patients.
Abbas stated that his administration cannot force anyone of its staff to work in the hospital without providing them with salaries or preserving a safe environment for them and patients.
He pointed out that only medical crews at the intensive care and nursery units decided not to participate in the strike to avoid any possible loss of life.
