Five Palestinians arrested for crossing Gaza borders

Friday 2-February-2018

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested on Friday a Palestinian young man for allegedly crossing Gaza’s eastern borders into Israel.

Earlier on Thursday evening four Palestinians were also detained as they attempted to cross the border from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

According to Israeli reports the fifth detainee was observed by IOF spotters as he approached the border fence and he was rounded up immediately after crossing over into Israel.

The detainee was unarmed when he was arrested the sources added.

He was then taken away for investigation.

Due to the constraints on Palestinian movement through the crossing many Gazans are commonly barred from leaving or entering the besieged coastal enclave some for months at a time as the crossing is only periodically opened by Egyptian authorities stranding Palestinians on both sides of the terminal.

The decade-long Israeli blockade has plunged the Gaza Strip’s two million Palestinians into extreme poverty and into the highest unemployment rates in the world.
