Candlelit vigil held in Gaza over Trump’s biased Jerusalem move

Friday 12-January-2018

A candlelight vigil was staged east of the blockaded Gaza Strip at nightfall on Thursday to show support for Occupied Jerusalem weeks after the U.S. President Donald Trump recognized the holy city as Israel’s capital.

The vigil organized by the National Relations Committee at al-Shuja’iya crossroads east of Gaza spoke out against the fallouts of Trump’s unilateral move.

Children men and women carried candles and lifted banners stressing Palestinians’ commitment to Occupied Jerusalem as the eternal capital of their future independent state.

“Jerusalem is being Judaized! Stand up for Jerusalem” and “Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine” were among the slogans chanted during the vigil.

Speaking on behalf of the children who were in attendance a girl said: “I am a Palestinian child. Visiting Jerusalem and praying at al-Aqsa Mosque have been my dreams since my early childhood. We Palestinian children have the right to live a happy childhood and make our dreams come true.”

“For God’s sake what sin have I committed? I have a dream that my life my land my home my village become as secure as I have always wished” she said.

“Ever since our motherland was taken away from us we have witnessed daily scenes of bloodshed. . . . We have a dream that our land be liberated from the thieves who stole our childhood from us” she added with tears in her eyes.
