Haneyya urges mediators to press Israel to honor Gaza understandings

Thursday 27-June-2019

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Wednesday appealed to Qatar Egypt and the UN the parties that mediated recent understandings with Israel over Gaza to intervene to pressure the Israeli side to honor its commitments in this regard.

Haneyya made his remarks in a popular rally organized Wednesday to condemn the two-day Bahrain economic conference that kicked off on June 25.

The Hamas official urged the mediators to make efforts to obligate the Israeli side to implement the understandings it had agreed upon over Gaza.

He considered the recent Israeli decision to withhold Qatari fuel shipments to the Gaza power plant as a wanton act of aggression against the population and contempt for the role of the mediators.

Last Tuesday the Israeli occupation authority announced it would suspend the entry of fuel shipments to the Gaza power plant.

Since October 2018 Qatar has been paying for the fuel supplies sent to the power plant in Gaza.

The Qatari aid contributed to improving the electricity supply service in Gaza which increased from four to 16 hours a day.
