The Israeli occupation authorities on Tuesday in violation of recent understandings decided to reduce the permitted fishing area in the besieged Gaza Strip to 6 nautical miles.
A Palestinian Liaison official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the Israeli authorities informed them on Tuesday that Gaza’s fishing zone was reduced to 6 nautical miles in response to an alleged rocket attack launched from the seaside area.
Head of the Palestinian Fishermen Union in Gaza Zakariya Baker told Quds Press that the Israeli navy on Tuesday morning opened fire at Palestinian fishermen and chased them back to shore. No injuries were reported.
Israel in early April allowed the expansion of the permitted fishing zone in Gaza from 9 to 12 nautical miles as part of a ceasefire agreement with resistance groups in Gaza mediated by Egypt and the United Nations.
The Israeli occupation army claimed that a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip on Monday evening landed off the shore of Ashdod city north of the coastal enclave.
Meanwhile the Higher National Committee for the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege has given the Israeli occupation a time limit until the end of the week to abide by the agreement recently reached to ease the 13-year-long blockade on the Gaza Strip.
The Gaza Strip Palestinians on 30 March 2018 started border protests under the name “the Great March of Return” to demand the return of refugees and pressure Israel to lift the siege.
Since the demonstrations started the Israeli occupation army has killed 284 Palestinians and injured over 31000 others.
