Israeli municipality starts to raze structures in Wadi Yasoul in J’lem

Thursday 18-April-2019

Israeli bulldozers on Wednesday demolished at least one Palestinian home one store and a horse farm in Wadi Yasoul neighborhood of Silwan district east of Occupied Jerusalem as part of a plan to remove the entire area and displace dozens of families.

According to local sources Israeli police forces escorting a municipal crew stormed and cordoned off the neighborhood before bulldozers started to demolish at least one store belonging to a local resident called Izz Barqan.

During the demolitions police forces brawled with local residents and assaulted them.

After demolishing the store the bulldozers demolished a horse farm with its stables belonging to Mohamed al-Qaq in the same neighborhood.

Local sources said that the bulldozers also razed one house in Wadi Yasoul.

The demolitions were only a prelude to razing 84 homes in the neighborhood after the Israeli high court of justice rejected an appeal filed by the local residents against municipal demolition orders approved by the district court in Jerusalem.

All the Palestinian families living in the neighborhoods have documents proving their ownership of their lands and they had built their homes on their own lands while the Israeli municipality refuses to give them construction permits.

Since 2002 the local residents have provided plans and maps for their area but the municipality always refuses to approve them.
