Israel re-opens Gaza crossings after one-week closure

Monday 1-April-2019

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper on Sunday said that the Israeli government has decided to re-open Gaza crossings after about a one-week closure.

The Israeli newspaper reported that work will be resumed at Karam Abu Salem and Erez crossings which were closed about a week ago over an alleged rocket attack from Gaza.

Raed Fattouh chairman of a committee in charge of coordinating the entry of goods into the Gaza Strip said in a press statement that the Israeli authorities have informed him about their intent to open Karam Abu Salem Gaza’s sole commercial crossing on Sunday.

Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing is the only travel gate between the besieged Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied territories.

The Israeli occupation about 13 years ago imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip closing all crossings linking the seaside area with the outside world through Egypt or the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories.

Gaza crossings might be opened partially in exceptional cases for a limited number of passengers or the for the entry of goods.
