Mishaal Shallah criticize Abbas over speech

Sunday 17-December-2006

DAMASCUS (PIC)– Khaled Mishaal the political bureau chairman of the Hamas Movement has affirmed that his Movement along with all other Palestinian factions refused any step in the wrong direction in reference to PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’ call for early legislative elections.

Asked on Abbas’ step during a press conference held by leaders of five major Palestinian factions in Damascus Mishaal said “Let him embark on whatever measure he likes but we will refer to the rule of the law and Palestinian popular will”.

“Any step outside the law is rejected and this is not the position of Hamas alone” Mishaal asserted.

Dr. Ramadan Shallah the secretary general of the Islamic Jihad Movement who attended the same press conference said “We hoped to hear a responsible speech (from PA chief Mahmoud Abbas) a speech that would not take the Palestinian arena into the unknown”.

Shallah said that the statement read out at the conference which rejected Abbas’ call as unjustified contained the stand of all factions including that of Fatah and pointed to the presence of Farouk Kaddoumi the secretary general of Fatah faction at the press conference.

“We do not need more tensions rather we need to contain any tension in the Palestinian arena” the Jihad leader affirmed adding that “sacred Palestinian blood” was spilled and all forces should work to avoid more bloodshed.
