The Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails entered on Tuesday day 29 of their disobedience steps which they staged in protest at the arbitrary punitive measures that were taken against them recently at the behest of far-right security minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
The prisoners had earlier declared a set of protest steps in all Israeli prisons last month that include a mass disobedience and an open hunger strike next Ramadan.
Earlier in February Israeli security minister Itamar Ben Gvir ordered several sanctions on Palestinian prisoners including:
– Restrictions on shower time and quantity of water for Palestinian prisoners.
– Providing the prisoners with inappropriate food intensifying night searches and raids with sniffer dogs.
– Passing bill in 1st reading to ban funding of medical treatment for Palestinian detainees.
– Intensifying the use of solitary confinement and removing electronic devices from the prisoners’ cells.
– Intensifying prisoners’ transfer between Israeli prisons.
Around 4780 Palestinian citizens including 29 women 160 children and 941 administrative detainees are currently held in Israeli prisons.
