Israeli courts have issued 580 administrative detention orders against Palestinian prisoners since the beginning of 2023 according to Palestine Center for Prisoners’ Studies.
In a press statement on Saturday Riyad Al-Ashqar the director of the center said that Israeli courts issued 223 new administrative detention orders in addition to extending the administrative detention orders of 357 detainees for periods ranging from two to six months.
“The number of administrative detainees reached 1000 detainees which is the biggest number since 2003” Al-Ashqar underlined pointing out that 85% of administrative detainees are ex-prisoners.
Al-Ashqar stressed that Palestinian administrative detainees are preparing to escalate their protest steps following the new punitive measures imposed against them calling on all international institutions to act urgently to end the Israeli policy of administrative detention.
Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by the Israeli occupation authority against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offense.
