Dozens of Jewish settlers broke into Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday amid increasing tension in the occupied city.
The settlers were protected by Israeli police as they broke into the third-holiest site in Islam while provocatively performing tours and Talmudic rituals.
Israeli provocations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque are not uncommon. In early January the new Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir stormed the holy site drawing widespread condemnation.
Meanwhile Palestinians’ access to the site is strictly limited.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque is exposed to daily desecration by Jewish settlers and police forces in the morning and the afternoon except on Fridays and Saturdays.
