The Israeli military court in Ofer has renewed the administrative detention of the Palestinian cancer patient Abdulbaset Ma’tan for six months.
The court order issued on Monday was the second consecutive detention order against Ma’tan who hails from Burqa village in Ramallah.
Human rights sources described the order as a “slow death” penalty in view of his condition and worsening health condition as he suffers from colon cancer.
Israeli occupation forces broke into Ma’tan’s house in July last year less than three months after his release from jail and detained him despite his medical condition.
Ma’tan 48 was sentenced in August for six months. His wife Zubaida described his detention in his current condition as a “crime”. She said that he is suffering from weight loss and weakness and was not accorded proper medical attention in Israeli incarceration.
Ma’tan a father of four children had obtained an MA in human rights and democracy and had served as the office manager of the deputy prime minister in the tenth Palestinian government.
