The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) refused on Friday a Palestinian appeal demanding the early release of the 79-year-old Palestinian prisoner Mowaffaq Arouq who suffers from cancer.
The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) affirmed that an Israeli special committee refused Arouq’s early release although he spent two thirds of his prison term pointing to his difficult health condition and old age.
Arouq who has been detained since January 2003 is serving a 30-year prison sentence. He started suffering from cancer three years ago. During which he was subjected to medical negligence worsening his health situation.
Arouq is currently held in Ashkelon prison alongside 35 other prisoners including 17 sick prisoners.
The number of sick Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons is currently around 600 with over 200 prisoners with chronic diseases and 24 prisoners diagnosed with cancer.
