Itamar Ben-Gvir makes first visit to Nafha prison

Friday 6-January-2023

The Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir arrived on Thursday evening for his first visit to the Nafha prison accompanied by the Israel Prison Service Commissioner Katy Perry and its senior command staff.

During the visit the Israeli controversial minister was presented with the new wings of the prison that were built last year which include further restrictions on Palestinian prisoners.

Ben-Gvir’s inspection was to make sure that the conditions of the security prisoners will not be improved according to his statements.

The Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in Gaza considered Ben-Gvir’s visit to Nafha prison as prelude to implement his criminal plans against the prisoners.

Ben-Gvir was sworn in last week as part of a new far-right government led by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Ben-Gvir holds far-right views towards the Palestinians and has called for their displacement. He has repeatedly joined Israeli settlers in entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound which has led to confrontations with Palestinians in the past.

Ben-Gvir was also a precursor to a wave of escalation in occupied East Jerusalem after setting up an office in February in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood where Palestinians face mass expulsion.

Commenting on the incident Hamas’s spokesperson Abdel Latif Al-Qanoa has slammed ‘the fascist Israeli occupation minister of national security Itamar Ben-Gvir’s visit to Nafha prison with plans to repress Palestinian detainees up his sleeve as an “unprecedented criminal act” against them.’

Al-Qanoa condemned the schemes being orchestrated by the Israeli occupation government against Palestinian detainees as a “dangerous development”.

The Hamas spokesperson also stressed that the Palestinian people will not stand idly by while the Israeli occupation government enforces such schemes.
