Report: 106 Gazans arrested by IOF during 2022

Saturday 24-December-2022

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have arrested at least 106 Palestinian citizens from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of 2022.

According to a report released on Saturday by the Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies nine of those citizens were passengers who were detained at the Israeli-controlled Beit Hanoun (Erez) border crossing after they tried to travel officially to the occupied West Bank Jerusalem or return to Gaza.

The center accused the Israeli intelligence service of persisting in using the Beit Hanoun crossing as a trap for the extortion and detention of civilians from Gaza.

63 of those detainees were fishermen who were kidnaped by Israeli naval forces during their work off the shores of Gaza the report said.

34 other cases of arrest happened during the current year when citizens tried to cross into Israel (1948 occupied Palestine) through the border fence in eastern Gaza. Most of them were released and sent back to Gaza after they were interrogated for hours or days.

During 2021 the IOF had arrested 75 Gazans including passengers and fishermen according to the report.
