The Israeli occupation army admitted on Monday that its troops shot Jana Zakarnah a 16-year-old Palestinian girl who died during a raid in the West Bank city of Jenin on Sunday night claiming she was killed by unintentional Israeli gunfire aimed at armed gunmen.
“Following a preliminary investigation it was found that there is indeed a high probability that the girl who was killed was hit by an accidental shot fired at armed men on a roof in the area from which shots were fired at the forces” the Israeli army justified in a statement.
“It appears the girl who was killed had been on the roof of one of the houses near the gunmen” its statement added.
Jana’s uncle Majed Zakarnah said on Monday that his niece was shot with multiple bullets.
The Israeli military were “heavily shooting everywhere. Jana was inside the house with her family and when she heard people screaming she went to the rooftop to see what was happening” Zakarnah explained.
“20 minutes after the soldiers left the neighborhood her father went to look for her. He found her lying on the floor with a face full of blood” Zakarnah added.
According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights pathologists from the Forensic Medicine Institute at an-Najah National University in Nablus examined the body of Najah and found that the shooting was carried out with an M16 weapon from a distance of about 300 meters.
In their autopsy report the doctors explained that Jana’s body was hit by five penetrating bullets — four of which hit her shoulders and neck and a fifth one pierced the right side of her head and exited the left side but some bullet fragments remained in the head which indicates that the bullets that killed her were of the same type of explosive ammunition used by Israeli forces.
